The Washington Commanders could use a boost at the quarterback position. Marcus Mariota went down with an injury in London, forcing Athan Kaliakmanis into action. Will the Commanders be forced to play Kaliakmanis again in Week 5? Or will Jayden Daniels finally return and save the day?
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo gave an injury update on Daniels that should have fans excited for this week of practice.
“Marcus Mariota had an MCL injury that he suffered the other day. Testing revealed that is the case with him, so it's looking like he is going to miss some time,” Garafolo said on Tuesday via Good Morning Football. “… That means Jayden Daniels, with the elbow, is it time? Can he come back for this week's game against the Giants? Well he practiced last week and was able to go through some things to see how he could handle it. And it looks like, if he has a good week of practice, that he is on track to be the guy to start for the Commanders against the Giants.”
It is remarkable to hear that Daniels could return just weeks after suffering another gruesome elbow injury. But it should be no surprise as Week 5 has been circled on Washington's calendar since late last week for a potential Daniels return.
Of course, Daniels will need to prove that he is ready for action throughout this week of practices. If Daniels takes first-team reps this week, and does not suffer any injury setbacks, he could be the guy on Sunday.

Washington has yet to sign another quarterback to replace Mariota. That is another piece of evidence that suggests that Daniels is close to making his comeback.
The Commanders are 1-3 on the season and desperately need to start winning games. Hopefully Daniels can make that happen during an important divisional matchup this weekend.
Commanders vs. Giants kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Oct. 11 from Northwest Stadium.
