Three teams entered Week 10 of the college football season with an unbeaten record, and only two remain. No. 1 Miami (FL) was beaten on the road at Notre Dame 31-24 to suffer its first defeat of 2026.
Miami trailed 24-3 in its first game without Malachi Toney, who is out due to an ankle injury that will likely cost him the rest of the regular season. It took the Hurricanes a little over a half to figure out life without their superstar receiver, but Darian Mensah eventually settled in and nearly led the comeback.
After the game, Notre Dame fans immediately stormed the field and swarmed the players and coaches on both sides. After the game, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal made it clear that he wasn't a fan of the way some Irish fans handled themselves during the celebration.
Mario Cristobal is a fan of Field Storming, just stay out of his and his players way, and go have fun

“It's player safety, my sons are out there as well,” Cristobal said. “I'm all for fun and everything else, but when you start to infringe on (safety), brother you better get back. It ain't gonna be pretty for you. Something has to be done about that kind of stuff. Let the fans have a good time and if the field is involved, that's great, but do not antagonize people.”
Article Continues BelowOf course, some college football fans were stunned that the Irish fans rushed the field in the first place. Even though Miami entered this game as the No. 1 team in the country, Notre Dame is still one of the premier programs in the sport and entered the game as a touchdown favorite, and many fans and pundits were expecting an Irish victory in this game.
Miami should be just fine in the College Football Playoff race despite this loss, even with Toney slated to miss more time with his ankle injury. The Hurricanes are still a virtual lock to make the ACC Championship Game, where they will be a favorite over any opponent across from them. If they handle their business there, Cristobal and company will have a chance to make another run at a national title.
