The Miami (FL) football team is still undefeated after a win over North Carolina Saturday. The Hurricanes have a huge test upcoming, as Notre Dame is next on the schedule. One Hurricanes player was shocked to learn that the Fighting Irish are next.

“Oh,” Miami edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot said, per ESPN, when informed of the next opponent. “Well, it's Notre Dame then.”

Miami defeated North Carolina 38-35 on Saturday. The Hurricanes defense struggled; North Carolina rolled up 407 total yards of offense.

“Certainly not the type of performance we want on [that] side of the ball,” Miami head coach Mario Cristobal said, “but it's a team game, and we still found a way to get the turnover when it counted.”

Cristobal is grateful his team came away with a win on Saturday. This is not the first time this season Miami has escaped with a close win. Earlier this year, Miami nearly got upset by Florida State.

“You see the amount of top-five and top-25 teams that are going on the road — and even at home — are getting beat in conference play,” Cristobal said. “Conference football is different. It's playoff football. So it's finding a way to go 1-0, but it's also finding a way to get better. In certain aspects we did, but others we've got to get better at.”

The Hurricanes must now move on from this scare. Notre Dame has a loss already this season to BYU, and doesn't want another blemish on their record. Since Notre Dame plays as an independent in football, a two-loss season could leave them out of the College Football Playoff.

Miami is now 8-0 on the year. The Hurricanes also have a goal this year of making the CFP. Miami made the field last season, and reached the national championship game before losing to Indiana.

Miami and Notre Dame play on November 7.
