Two Miami football players are quickly becoming top Heisman Trophy contenders, and Skip Bayless has a unique idea for the Hurricanes’ standout pair. 

Bayless went on X, formerly Twitter, to praise Miami quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Malachi Toney during their strong performances against Wake Forrest. In fact, the longtime sports commentator even suggested the two Hurricanes could share college football’s top individual award.

“Maybe Darian Mensah and Malachi Toney can share the Heisman,” Bayless wrote.

Bayless’s comment shows how quickly Mensah and Toney have caught national attention. As a result, they have become one of the most productive quarterback-receiver duos in college football, giving Miami two players who can make a big impact every game.

Mensah made a strong first impression in his Miami debut against Stanford. Specifically, the Duke transfer completed 27 of 30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns in Miami’s 45-6 win. His efficient, accurate play and deep throws quickly put him in the early Heisman conversation.

Toney was just as impressive in the win. Meanwhile, the wide receiver caught 12 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns. His performance set a Miami single-game record for receiving yards and showed why he could stay one of the team’s top offensive threats all season.

Each player’s success has helped the other. Their connection could become a big story as the season goes on. If both keep playing at a high level, Miami might have two real Heisman contenders. Ultimately, the team’s success will depend on how well this duo continues to perform.
