The New York Mets made a roster addition on Monday. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that New York claimed right-handed pitcher Jack Anderson off waivers from the Minnesota Twins.
Anderson spent time with both the Boston Red Sox and Twins in 2026. The Twins claimed Anderson off waivers from the Red Sox in July after Boston designated him for assignment.
He ultimately appeared in a total of seven big league games between the Sox and Twins, pitching to a strong 2.19 ERA. He spent most of his time pitching for the ball clubs' Triple-A teams. Overall, Anderson turned in a 4.92 in 28 total outings (16 starts) at the Triple-A level.
The Mets endured a miserable season. They entered the year with lofty expectations but ultimately fell short of reaching the postseason. New York needs to address a number of areas on the roster, but pitching will be among the most important. Anderson won't solve all of their problems. He will provide crucial depth, however.
The Mets will be an intriguing ball club to follow as the offseason moves forward. They could look to sign one or two starting pitchers in MLB free agency. In fact, the Mets are already being linked to a potential Tarik Skubal pursuit.

With all of that being said, the idea of New York competing next season is certainly not out of the question. Still, the Mets will need a productive offseason to say the least.
The Anderson addition is a good start, but there's still plenty of work to do.
