The Seattle Mariners are looking for a new manager after a disappointing season. It appears a well-known Major League Baseball manager is in the mix for the job.

“Joe Espada could also be an option if the Houston Astros don’t bring him back,” The Athletic reported.

Espada just led the Astros to the Major League Baseball Playoffs, despite a tough season. Houston ended up winning the American League West, even though they went just 81-81. The Astros lost in the MLB Playoffs to the Chicago White Sox.

The Mariners are looking at several other options.

“Former big-league managers Alex Cora, Brandon Hyde, David Ross, Rocco Baldelli and Dave Martinez are potential candidates with experience who could be good fits for Seattle,” the outlet reported.

Seattle had a tough season in 2026. The Mariners finished the year at 76-86. Despite this turbulent campaign, The Athletic believes Seattle could be a team to watch in 2027.

“The Mariners already have a strong core set to return in 2027, especially on the pitching side. They will bring back one of the best six-man rotations in baseball with Logan Gilbert, Bryan Woo, George Kirby, Kade Anderson, Emerson Hancock and Bryce Miller all set to return. Pitching prospect Ryan Sloan also looks poised to contribute to the major-league rotation in 2027,” The Athletic reported.

Seattle parted ways with Dan Wilson and the majority of his staff following the 2026 campaign. The club finished the season third in the AL West.

“The Mariners still need another bat. They will likely make a run at bringing back (Randy) Arozarena and could consider trading one of their starters if they can get a pre-arbitration hitter to lengthen the lineup. They also need to target players who play with more energy and preferably with an edge,” the outlet reported.

Time will tell who becomes the next manager for this Mariners club.
