One of the biggest moves of the Toronto Maple Leafs season was the signing of Sergei Bobrovsky. Bobrovsky was given a three-year deal by the Maple Leafs in order to bring stability to the goaltending for the franchise.
The expected results from the netminder have not come to fruition, as Bobrovsky has struggled. Still, GM John Chayka has confidence in the goaltender, per Pierre LeBrun of TSN.
“We have a lot of confidence in Bob,” Chayka said. “He’s an elite competitor with a long track record of success. He holds himself to an incredibly high standard, and we know what he brings to our team.”
Bobrovsky has made ten starts for the Maple Leafs so far this year. He is 3-5-2 with a 3.29 goals-against average and an .885 save percentage. Further, he has given up three or more goals in all but one game this year.
Bobrovsky was undrafted out of Russia before signing with the Philadelphia Flyers. He broke into the NHL in the 2010-11 season. Since then, he has been with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Florida Panthers. Prior to joining the Maple Leafs, Bobrovsky was 456-266-58 with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. Bobrovsky is a two-time winner of the Vezina Trophy and a two-time Stanley Cup Champion.
