A few days ago, UFC fans around the globe and on the internet were shocked when Raoni Barcelos suffered a scary injury and fell unconscious. The 39-year-old Barcelos lost consciousness for no clear reason in the fifth round of his fight with Raul Rosas Jr.
UFC's medical team soon checked for a pulse before Raoni Barcelos was stretchered out of the arena. He was then taken to a Las Vegas hospital. Later, Barcelos’ coach shared a positive update after his terrifying loss at UFC Vegas 121. “Raoni is fine. Everything is alright. Everyone can stay calm,” his coach, Davi Ramos, said.
Now, veteran journalist Ariel Helwani shared more information about the situation and Barcelos' current condition. “Update on Raoni Barcelos, per sources: He’s able to talk. He’s very conscious and lucid, I’m told. He’s able to walk and eat, as well. Still unclear what happened. And still unclear how long he’ll be in the hospital for,” Helwani wrote.
His opponent, the 21-year-old Raul Rosas Jr. recently shared his first statement following his concerning win over Barcelos. “History continues,” he wrote. “What a special night ! Being able to headline my first Main event at 21 years old, Dreams coming reality all trough hard work, and God’s plan. I felt great out there I knew I was in for a war, had a lot of fun. Prayers to my opponent we both pushed each other to our limits, we left it all out there. Thank you all for helping me get better everyday and believing in me.”
“Following his fight tonight, Raoni Barcelos was immediately transported to a Level 1 trauma center for evaluation. The hospital medical team conducted a CT scan and comprehensive assessment, and he is currently being monitored. Barcelos is stable, alert and responsive, with full movement. He will remain under medical supervision. We will provide updates on his condition as they become available,” UFC also shared via their official statement.
