It only took Luka Doncic three games to drop the season's first 50-piece special. He exploded for 52 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers past the Utah Jazz, 132-123, at Delta Center on Sunday.
Doncic was a recurring headache for the Jazz, shooting 17-of-30 from the field, including 8-of-18 from three-point range. He added eight rebounds, 10 assists, and two steals in another magical performance. The Lakers improved to 3-0.
Austin Reaves was not too shabby. He scored 29 points on 7-of-12 field goals, including 4-of-5 from long distance. He added four assists and two blocks.
In a report, The Athletic's Dan Woike pointed out Reaves' impressive efficiency so far.
“Through three games, Reaves is averaging 26.7 points per game on just 12 field goal attempts per outing, hitting 63.9% from the field and 61.5% from three,” wrote Woike.
The 28-year-old guard said it is important to “play the game the right way.”
“We have a team that understands roles and what we ask them to do. If they're gonna do everything that we ask them to do, we gotta help them in these situations. The thing about our team is, there's no ego. There's no anything. We just wanna win basketball games, and however that happens is the main thing,” said Reaves.
Woike noted that coach JJ Redick dubbed the unassuming playmaker “Mr. Consistency.”
Article Continues BelowWhile Reaves' eye-popping efficiency will likely taper off, he will remain a lethal weapon alongside Doncic. They will carry the offensive load every night, giving the Lakers a dynamic one-two punch that can score in endless ways.
Reaves has also embraced being more communicative, which is always a plus in Redick's book.
The Lakers will try to remain undefeated on Tuesday against the Portland Trail Blazers.
