Supporters of the Los Angeles Sparks have claimed an unusual WNBA distinction: No fanbase talks more trash.

Casino.org surveyed 2,000 league followers across the United States and Canada in September 2026, then converted their responses into a weighted index. Los Angeles finished first with 65.6 points, narrowly beating the Washington Mystics at 65.2.

The Sparks’ numbers explain that finish. Sixty-seven percent of their supporters acknowledged talking smack about a player, fan or opposing team during the season. Among that group, 75% said provoking the other side played a role.

Their commentary did not remain inside arenas or private conversations. Fifty-eight percent said they had entered an opponent’s social media replies looking to stir things up. Another 30% characterized their language as either fairly severe or completely unrestricted.

Los Angeles won the survey, but Washington made the race remarkably close. The Minnesota Lynx placed third at 59.6, while the Connecticut Sun and Atlanta Dream completed the top five with scores of 58.6 and 58.3, respectively.

At the other end, Portland Fire supporters registered a league-low 40.2. Seattle Storm fans finished 14th with 43 points, creating a considerable gap between the two West Coast leaders and everyone near the bottom.

The index considered eight behaviors, including participation, frequency, intentional provocation, social media activity, harshness and the likelihood of responding when challenged. Each category carried a designated percentage of the final result.

Across the full survey, half of respondents said they had engaged in trash talk this season. Those patterns collectively pushed Los Angeles to the top, earning the Sparks another first-place finish, even if this one will never appear in the standings.
