Andrew Farrell announced Monday that he will retire at the conclusion of the MLS season, ending a record-setting tenure with the New England Revolution.

Farrell has spent his entire 14-year MLS career with the Revolution, who drafted him first overall in 2013. The defender, 34, owns several franchise records with 345 games played, 329 starts and 29,384 minutes played.

According to the team, Farrell ranks fourth in MLS history for most league appearances for a single club, and his total minutes rank sixth in the league since 2013.

"Words cannot express how grateful I am to the New England Revolution for welcoming me into their family with open arms for the last 14 years," Farrell said in a statement. "Thank you to the Kraft family, (president Brian Bilello), all my teammates and coaches throughout my career, and the staff behind the scenes for helping me live dreams that I never imagined possible. There is truly no other place I would have rather spent my career and no place I'd rather call my second home."

Farrell was an MLS All-Star in 2016, and he helped guide the Revs to the 2014 MLS Cup final, the 2016 U.S. Open Cup final and the 2021 Supporters' Shield. He has recorded two goals and 12 assists in his career.

He has also served in a dual role over the past two seasons, serving as an assistant coach in the Revolution Academy. He is working toward a U.S. Soccer B coaching license with an eye on a post-playing career as a coach.

"Andrew not only personified what it means to be a Revolution player, but helped define it," Bilello said in a statement. "His accomplishments on the pitch speak for themselves. The selfless example he set off the pitch will continue to resonate here forever, especially among the many community partners Andrew has been working with for over a decade. We are thrilled that Andrew spent his entire career here in New England, and he will always be part of the Revolution family."

The Revolution (17-10-4, 55 points) are in second place in the Eastern Conference and have already qualified for the playoffs.
