The NFL fined Detroit Lions star running back Jahmyr Gibbs $23,027 for a lowering-of-the-helmet violation during the team's 31-30 overtime victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo shared a clip Saturday of the play that resulted in Gibbs' fine. Officials did not penalize Gibbs for the hit during the game.

The violation occurred on Gibbs' 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Gibbs took the handoff before bouncing outside and lowering his helmet into the neck and chest area of Saints cornerback Quincy Riley as he crossed the goal line.

The touchdown extended Detroit's lead to 13-0 at the time. New Orleans eventually erased the deficit before the Lions secured the 31-30 victory in overtime to open their season with a win.

Gibbs has established himself as one of the key pieces of Detroit's offense since the Lions selected him with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. His ability as both a runner and receiver has made him a significant part of the team's offensive attack.

Detroit has since fallen to 1-1 after suffering a 41-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football in Week 2.

The Lions will now look to rebound when they face the New York Jets in Week 3. Detroit is scheduled to host New York next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
