The Tampa Bay Lightning have made their position clear regarding Nikita Kucherov's reported trade request, with general manager Julien BriseBois firmly stating that the organization has no plans to move its franchise superstar.

BriseBois addressed the situation Friday night after Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed that Kucherov had informed both his teammates and the organization that he would not sign another contract with Tampa Bay and would prefer to be traded.

“We are aware of the media reports regarding the future of Nikita Kucherov with the Lightning,” BriseBois said in a statement shared through the team's social media account. “We unequivocally have no intention of trading Nikita.”

Kucherov is playing in his final season of an eight-year, $76 million contract, which carries an average annual value of $9.5 million. The 33-year-old forward has been eligible to negotiate an extension since July 1 and can become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

However, the two sides are reportedly considerably apart in contract negotiations, with Kucherov seeking a substantial pay increase. His current agreement also includes a modified no-trade clause that allows him to identify 10 teams to which he would accept a trade.

Kucherov's agent, Dan Milstein, also addressed the situation, telling ESPN that he would “stand by Nikita unconditionally” without providing further details.

Amid the uncertainty surrounding his future, Kucherov reportedly intends to continue playing for the Lightning while the situation develops. Tampa Bay is scheduled to face the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

The potential departure would be huge for the Lightning, considering Kucherov's contributions throughout his 13 NHL seasons with the franchise. He recently surpassed longtime teammate Steven Stamkos to become the organization's all-time leading scorer, reaching 1,139 career points through 891 regular-season appearances.

Kucherov has garnered 405 goals and 734 assists during his NHL career. He also has 177 points, including 54 goals and 123 assists, across 159 playoff games.

The Russian winger is coming off another outstanding campaign, recording 44 goals and 130 points in 76 games last season to win his second Hart Trophy. He has four goals and 15 points in 12 appearances this season.

A two-time Stanley Cup champion, Kucherov helped Tampa Bay secure consecutive championships in 2020 and 2021. He also won the Art Ross Trophy three times, finishing as the league's leading scorer in 2018-19, 2023-24 and 2024-25.

With Kucherov potentially approaching free agency and BriseBois publicly ruling out a trade, his contract situation remains a big storyline for the Lightning.
