The Los Angeles Lakers did not recover from a slow start and were crushed by the Golden State Warriors, 124-98, in the preseason at Chase Center on Tuesday.

The Lakers were outscored by the Warriors in the first quarter, 45-31. They tried to stay afloat in the second half, but Golden State did not let up, rolling to its first win in the preseason. The Lakers trailed by as much as 38 points.

Despite the loss, coach JJ Redick lauded the value of Quentin Grimes, as reported by Spectrum SportsNet's Mike Trudell.

“Asked JJ Redick about Quentin Grimes through two games, and he said he's been impressed with his commitment to the defensive end. He knows how dynamic Grimes can be offensively. The two-way ability he's showing is a good sign heading towards the regular season,” wrote Trudell on X.

Grimes had 12 points, one rebound, three assists, and one steal in 23 minutes. He, however, also had three turnovers.

The unheralded wingman got plenty of opportunities, with the Lakers resting Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Walker Kessler, and Collin Sexton.

The Lakers signed the 26-year-old Grimes to a four-year, $60 million contract in July. He is on his fifth team in six years after also playing for the New York Knicks, the Detroit Pistons, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Last season, he averaged 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in a career-high 75 games.

Grimes will likely start for the Purple and Gold, joining Doncic, Reaves, Walker, and either Jake LaRavia or Sandro Mamukelashvili.

The Lakers will take on the Sacramento Kings on Thursday.
