Michigan dropped to 3-1 on the season after a 20-19 loss to Iowa on Saturday. Iowa drove 91 yards on the final drive of the game, ending with a touchdown pass from Hank Brown to Reece Vander Zee to win the contest.

Now, Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham is talking about the start of the season for the team, per Fox College Football.

“Well, we're 3-1. I feel like we're 0-4. I can tell you that's how I feel, but we're 3-1. One play away from 4-0. One play away from 2-2. It's been, three of the four games, very close. You know, closely contested games. So it's been an emotional roller coaster in a way,” Whittingham said. “I see a lot of things trending in the right direction. The offense, Bryce Underwood as an individual. The offensive line. So I think we've got some things going for us, but we still got things we've already talked about that need to be cleaned up.”

Underwood had one of his best games of the season against Iowa. He threw for 276 yards on 17 of 28 passes with two touchdowns. Still, he threw one interception. That interception ended a drive that would likely have ended up in points and could have been the difference in the game. Underwood also struggled late in the game. On the second-to-last offensive drive for Michigan of the contest, a penalty forced a second-and-long. Underwood missed back-to-back passes, not draining the clock and forcing a punt with 5:22 left.

Iowa missed the field goal on the next drive, setting Michigan up at their own 33-yard line. Michigan ran the ball all three times, including one by Underwood, but did not get a first down, leading to a Michigan punt and then the game-winning drive by Iowa.

Michigan now hits the road to face Minnesota on Saturday.
