The New York Knicks are still searching for their rhythm in the preseason, but Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson have clearly picked up right where they left off off the court. After Thursday’s 111-109 loss to the Washington Wizards at Madison Square Garden, Brunson was in the middle of his postgame scrum when Hart decided to crash the moment.

“Hey JB! You’ve got to pay for dinner, I forgot my wallet,” Hart called out, according to video shared by SNY.

It was a classic Hart interruption and the latest chapter in one of the NBA’s most entertaining friendships. The two have been close since their college days at Villanova, and their banter has become a regular feature of Knicks media sessions. Hart has trolled Brunson over his “SNL” performance and once ordered food in the middle of a press conference, much to his teammate’s amusement.

The timing of this latest bit was fitting, given that the Knicks could use a lighter mood. Thursday’s loss dropped New York to 0-2 in the preseason. The starters logged far more minutes than they did in the opener, yet the offense again came up short.

Washington made a strong first impression in its own preseason debut. Anthony Davis scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in his first game for the Wizards, Trae Young added 15 points and four assists, and top pick AJ Dybantsa chipped in 11 points and four steals.

New York opened its exhibition slate on Monday with a 120-97 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, a game in which the Knicks shot just 8-of-41 from beyond the arc. The biggest positive from that night was Brunson’s return to live action after offseason wrist surgery. He scored a team-high 12 points in 15 minutes and called the performance “a good first step. Not a great first step.”

Results in October rarely mean much, and head coach Mike Brown still has time to sort out his rotation before the regular season.

If Hart’s antics are any indication, though, the chemistry in the locker room is already in midseason shape. Whether Brunson actually picked up the dinner tab remains a mystery.
