The New York Knicks have already hit unsettling NBA history early in 2026. But Sunday's 111-102 loss to the Orlando Magic matched a troubling trend not seen since 2011.

New York has now fallen to 0-3, leading to this mark mentioned by ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel.

“The Knicks are the first defending champions since the Mavericks in 2011 to lose each of their first three games of the new season,” Siegel posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Yes, the season is a long one and it's only three games. But Siegel brought up one more historical nugget involving the winless champs.

“Dallas went on to lose in the first round of the playoffs that year as the defending champions,” Siegel adds.

So the Knicks have new concerning marks attached to them. And even their ring ceremony came with controversy.

Owner James Dolan reportedly used a scam email to employees about getting their rings. But claimed it was to ease cybersecurity concerns. Still, Dolan drew lots of heat for the tactic. The Knicks immediately owned the mistake there. But that's not the only ring controversy.

Members of the Knicks coaching staff outside of coach Mike Brown never received their rings on opening night. So those coaches are still awaiting for their bling.

Jalen Brunson led NYK with 28 points in 32 minutes on the floor against the Magic. Karl Anthony-Towns added 22 points along with OG Anunoby. Josh Hart rose as the last member of the Knicks to score past the double digit mark with 13 points in the loss.
