Prior to sealing a 108-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers to move to 3-1 on the season, a devastating turn of events befell the Oklahoma City Thunder. With time winding down in the fourth quarter, All-Star forward Jalen Williams suffered a horrific ankle injury that the training staff immediately had to cover with a towel. The medical stuff then rushed to his aid, and he had to be stretchered off the floor.

The early signs are not promising for the Thunder, and the players' reaction during the immediate aftermath of Williams' injury says it all. At the very least, it looks like a lengthy stint on the sidelines awaits the 25-year-old forward, putting OKC in such a tough position moving forward.

“Those are tough, man,” Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault said in his postgame presser, via ClutchPoints beat reporter Josue Pavon. “We're not doing great. That's tough on the guys. Everyone empathizes. I think both teams, in those situations. So yeah, not doing great.”

The fateful play happened with 1:14 remaining in the final frame. With the Thunder holding on to a precarious four-point lead, Williams made an aggressive play to drive to the basket, where he was met by Derrick Jones Jr. He then landed awkwardly and with brutal force on his ankle.

According to a few experts on social media, it appears as though Williams had suffered an ankle dislocation and fracture. The Thunder, of course, will be waiting for the official diagnosis before it becomes clearer to them what his timeline for recovery will be.

This is a tough development for Williams, who was raring to bounce back from an injury-riddled 2025-26 campaign. Last season, he only played in 33 regular-season games, and he missed four of the Thunder's seven games against the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals.

Through three games this season, Williams has put up 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per contest.
