The New York Knicks have now officially put contract negotiations on hold heading into the 2026-27 NBA season. The decision affects Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, Miles McBride, and Tyler Kolek, all of whom are eligible for extensions.
NBA insider Shams Charania reported that a team spokesperson confirmed the pause, with New York choosing to revisit negotiations later in the season.
“As an organization, our entire focus is on preparing for the upcoming season and delivering another year for our fans to be proud of. As a result, we will not be negotiating contract extensions until later in the season and will remain solely focused on preparing for the start of the season,” the spokesperson said.

He also showed willingness to consider a deal that would help New York keep its core together.
