With the New York Knicks deciding to end contract talks with Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart, the mood around the team isn't the best at the moment. But it's about to be party time in New York once again, with the champions set to get their rings and raise their banner on opening night at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks capped off an underwhelming preseason campaign on Thursday by claiming their first win against the Toronto Raptors in front of their home crowd. Jalen Brunson had his best game of the preseason with 20 points and seven assists to lead the team to a 122-120 victory.

After the game, Brunson was asked about the upcoming ring ceremony and banner raising at MSG. The Knicks superstar spent a few seconds in silence, smiling and looking up at the rafters imagining the moment.

“It's gonna be a great night. It's gonna be a great night,” Brunson eventually responded.

The Knicks will take on the new-look Philadelphia 76ers on opening night. It will be an emotional night for Brunson and everyone present at MSG as they finally get to see another banner rise after over 50 years of waiting. Many of those years were spent in mediocrity amid mismanagement by the front office.

But Brunson's arrival in 2022 was the major spark that the Knicks needed to catapult back up to the top of the NBA. Now, just four years later, he is set to be immortalized as the man who restored the Knicks to greatness by leading them to their third championship.

The next challenge for Brunson and the Knicks will be to become the first team since 2018 to successfully defend the NBA championship and experience yet another banner raising at MSG next year.
