The Atlanta Falcons are one of the most inconsistent and unpredictable teams in the NFL through the first half of the season. Earlier in the year, they went into Green Bay and hammered the Packers 35-14. While they followed that with another road victory over the New Orleans Saints, they lost consecutive home games to the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears.
Chicago fans appeared to take over Merecedes-Benz Stadium with their loud support in that Week 6 game.
It looked like their season was about to disintegrate, but head coach Kevin Stefanski's team bounced back in a huge way. The Falcons knocked the San Francisco 49ers from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 29-20 triumph in front of the team's home fans.
Michael Penix had a big day for the Falcons as he completed 25 of 34 passes for 213 yards with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. Drake London was his go-to receiver as he caught 7 of 10 targets for 66 yards and one of his TD passes. The Falcons also benefitted greatly from San Francisco mistakes. The Niners suffered 4 turnovers and could not force any from the Falcons.
Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski was quick to credit the Falcons' supportive fans for helping to cause issues for the visitors. “Incredible. What an amazing atmosphere today,” Stefanski said after the game, per Falcons reporter Tori McElhaney. “We appreciate that we were finally able to get that W for them today.”
