The Boston Celtics recently held an introductory press conference for Paul George and Mike Conley Jr., both of whom were brought in this offseason. The Celtics also signed big man Mitchell Robinson in free agency, although he missed the presser due to personal reasons.

One person not a fan of what he heard during George's section of the press conference was former Celtics champion and current NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins.

“I didn’t see him winning the press conference… The Celtic fanbase don’t want to hear that nonsense… They want to hear you come in with a certain level of confidence,” said Perkins, per NBA on ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.

George spoke candidly about Celtics fans' reaction to the trade that brought him to Boston in exchange for franchise star Jaylen Brown, with a large chunk of the fanbase causing a wave of backlash against executive Brad Stevens.

While George didn't necessarily seem unconfident about his prospects of winning over the fanbase, clearly, Perkins was hoping to hear a more decisive tone from the former MVP candidate.

In theory, George will provide some elite floor-spacing and defensive instincts, along with some secondary playmaking, to Boston, having outplayed Brown in their head to head matchup in last year's playoff series between the 76ers and Celtics.

However, his age and injury history both raise major questions about his availability, as he seemed to run out of gas altogether in Philadelphia's second-round sweep at the hands of the New York Knicks.

In any case, the Celtics are set to kick off their new season on October 20 with a rare weekday afternoon game on the road vs the Detroit Pistons.
