Retired basketball player and two-time NBA champion JR Smith was arrested on Tuesday, Sep. 29, 2026, in Texas on a family violence charge.
TMZ reports that Smith was arrested and booked on a charge of “assault causing bodily injury family violence.” As of the time of this writing, he is still in custody at the Hunt County Detention Center. A bond has not been set yet.
As TMZ puts it, he appears “stone-faced” in his mug shot. This is not his first time in jail, as he previously served 24 days after pleading guilty to reckless driving that was connected to a 2007 crash. One of the former New York Knicks guard passengers died in the crash.
