As the Tennessee football team took down the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, 26-10, it led to Volunteers fans storming the field, which has been a familiar sight. With Josh Heupel leading the Tennessee football program to another win over Alabama, he spoke about the fanbase and gave them a bold declaration.
Speaking after the game to the media, Heupel was asked about giving the fans now three opportunities to storm the field after a big win over the Crimson Tide. It would result in Heupel calling the Volunteers faithful the “best fan base in America,” according to The Next Round on X, formerly Twitter.
“Go back to the first one, you know, all the buildup, lead-up to it, and now there's an expectation, that's what you do when you're playing these guys, and it's been fun building this,” Heupel said in his post-game press conference after the win over the Crimson Tide. “There's been days where we want different outcomes, but this is without a doubt the best fan base in America. They show up in an elite way every Saturday.”

Tennessee football head coach Josh Heupel continues on Alabama win
Article Continues BelowWhile Saturday featured other SEC upsets like the unranked Florida Gators taking down the No. 7 Texas Longhorns or the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs falling to the unranked Auburn Tigers, this upset was smaller in scale, arguably. With the Tennessee football team ranked at 14th and Alabama at six, it was still a game that Heupel will “remember forever.”
“Recruits come here. You drive by Vol Navy, see all those boats. You go to Volwalk, and you see 35,000 people, 60 minutes before kickoff, it's 65, 70 percent full. It's college sports. College football is as good as it gets, and special to be here,” Heupel continued. “Walking off that field in a situation like tonight, where you win, those are things that I'll remember forever too.”
At any rate, the win over the Crimson Tide moves Tennessee to a 6-1 record and 3-1 in conference play, as Heupel and the Volunteers look for their fourth straight win on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 24, against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
