PHOENIX– Preseason is often a test run for NBA teams, and the Phoenix Suns and head coach Jordan Ott are no different. It would be an excellent opportunity to see how the four-man unit of Devin Booker, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and Miles Bridges would work.

There was a legitimate chance for a sample size during the team's first game against the Detroit Pistons. The latter had a complete game, making his presence known around the rim and as a playmaker.

That's what the Suns hoped to get when they traded for Bridges.

But once he went down with an injury, it signaled perhaps some deja vu from last season. Luckily, the injury isn't too harsh but not one Ott would risk.

“I think the ankle is recovering at a good rate, but that's the one where we're not going to press,” he explained after Monday's practice. That's the one we're not gonna press on if it's not perfect.”

Miles Bridges' injury isn't too concerning, per Jordan Ott

From what has been reported, it isn't an ankle sprain or anything that will take multiple weeks to recover. If this were the regular season, it might be a different story, but not risking it during the preseason is advantageous.

Although the depth at the wing spot is loaded, Bridges brings a unique element to the Suns. His blend of size and athleticism is intriguing alone, but the offensive versatility can be a major highlight.

But the defense might be the biggest question. He said during media day that defense is a major point of emphasis, especially being versatile and switching onto perimeter and some post players.

If his ankle recovers as Ott suggested, it's likely he'll be more than ready for the team's first regular season game on October 21.

Getting him back up to game speed could be another question. Either way, the Suns will be thankful for a fully healthy roster by that time.
