Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid made an eye-opening career admission Saturday after showing encouraging signs during the team's Blue x White scrimmage.
Embiid threw down a left-handed driving dunk during the scrimmage before making a surprising comment about the play afterward. Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice shared Embiid's remark on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Probably the last dunk of my career,” Embiid said.
The comment came after Embiid logged significant action in the scrimmage and appeared to move well on the court. Aaronson noted earlier in the event that the former MVP looked comfortable while attacking the basket.
“Left-handed driving dunk for Joel Embiid, moving quite well right now. He’s played a bunch of minutes,” Aaronson wrote.
Embiid's health remains one of the biggest storylines surrounding Philadelphia entering the 2026-27 season. The 76ers will need their star center available as they attempt to contend with a revamped roster that now features LeBron James alongside Embiid.

James said Embiid is much healthier now than he was during their Olympic run and added that their previous experience together has made developing chemistry easier.
“It’s been good. Actually, it’s been great,” James said.
Embiid's participation and movement during Saturday's scrimmage provide another positive development as Philadelphia prepares for preseason action. While his remark about potentially recording the final dunk of his career will draw attention, his ability to play extended minutes and attack the rim represented an encouraging sign for the 76ers.
Philadelphia will continue monitoring Embiid throughout the preseason as it works toward having its new-look roster ready for the regular season.
