The New York Jets have not had the 2026 season they hoped for. New York is destined for a top-10 pick after starting the season 2-6. Perhaps the Jets can start turning things around by getting a few key players back from injury in Week 9.
ESPN's Rich Cimini dropped some new injury updates from Jets practice on Thursday ahead of Week 9.
“Jets practice: No sign of Garrett Wilson (concussion) and Harrison Phillips (ankle) during stretching,” Cimini wrote. “Breece Hall and David Bailey are participating.”
This is encouraging news for both Hall and Bailey. New York's top running back has not played since Week 3 against Detroit because of a quad injury. Breece was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice and appears to be participating once again on Thursday.
The emergence of Braelon Allen could make it easier for Hall to return this week. New York could easily put Breece on a pitch count and give any remaining carries to Allen. That would get Hall back on the field while also not pushing him too hard in his first game back.
When asked about the running back situation on Wednesday, head coach Aaron Glenn gave a brief answer. He esimply “both will play” when asked about managing the workload between Allen and Hall.
Jets fans should watch for the Friday practice report for the next clue on Hall's potential availability.
Meanwhile, Wilson picked up his concussion in Week 8 against the Raiders. There is technically a chance that Wilson could return for Week 9, but he would have to breeze through concussion protocol. That feels unlikely considering he hasn't been available to practice much this week.
All of this comes on top of multiple trade rumors surrounding the Jets ahead of the NFL trade deadline. New York already has a full war chest of picks, but that shouldn't stop them from making any other deals.
It will be interesting to see if New York's strategy changes at all based on the outcome of this weekend's matchup.
Jets at Chiefs kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Nov 8 from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
