The Winnipeg Jets have been struggling so far this year. They are 5-8-3 this season, and recently were on a nine-game losing streak. The losing streak was broken in their last game, after the Jets made a four-goal comeback to beat the Montreal Canadiens.
The team is scoring just 2.44 goals per game, which ranks 29th in the NHL, but is making a move to hopefully score more, calling up a former first-round pick from the AHL, according to a release from the team.
The Jets have called up Brayden Yager from the Manitoba Moose of the AHL. Yager was the 14th overall selection of the 2023 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He signed with the Penguins in July 2024, but was traded to the Jets that August. Yager made his NHL debut in the 2025-26 season, playing three games in April. In that time, he did not register a point, with just one shot on goal. He has also played one game this year with the Jets, taking one shot and registering 14:38 of ice time.
Yager has put up some impressive numbers in the AHL. Last year, in 68 games, he scored ten goals while adding 20 assists. He has found a new level this season. In ten games, he has found the back of the net seven times and added five helpers.
Article Continues BelowThe team needs to find some offensive help. Kyle Connor has been one of the lone bright spots. He has 13 goals and four assists this year. Meanwhile, Mark Scheifele has two goals and 12 assists, while Cole Perfetti has six goals and five assists. Of those three, only Cole Perfetti is not on the first line.
The Jets return to the ice Thursday night, hosting the Vancouver Canucks.
