While the Philadelphia Phillies were looking to make one last push for the NL East, the team had been dealing with an injury to star pitcher Jesus Luzardo that had many within the fanbase concerned. As Luzardo sustained a shoulder injury with the Phillies, the latest MRI results have come back, with fans likely to have their concerns alleviated.

According to ESPN, the MRI revealed that Luzardo has not dealt with any structural damage, though he is still dealing with stiffness in his shoulder and won't throw for a few days.

There were some questions regarding the severity of Luzardo's injury after he was scratched from Saturday's start against the Atlanta Braves, which ended up being a 12-2 loss, as interim manager Don Mattingly speaks on the precautions being taken.

“As we worked through it the last couple of days, we thought he's gonna be able to make the start,” Mattingly said, via ESPN. “He's still not quite there. We feel like it's safer to be careful with him. We don't want this to linger, so it's one of those things we want to try to take care of it and just go from there.”

So far this season with the Phillies, Luzardo has recorded a 2.87 ERA and 1.08 WHIP to go along with 221 strikeouts and a 14-5 record in 29 starts. When Mattingly spoke about Luzardo's shoulder stiffness, he didn't seem to be concerned about it being a long-term issue.

“(Luzardo) is going to get scratched (on Saturday); he's been having some shoulder stiffness,” Mattingly said after Friday's game, per NBC Sports.

“To this point, I don't feel that same way… We talked with him; he threw a little touch and feel today, just to see where he was at,” Mattingly continued. “And he's just really having trouble getting loose; that's the biggest thing. He thought he could pitch; we didn't feel like it was the best thing.”

It remains to be seen when Luzaro pitches next, as Philadelphia is 82-67, second in the AL East, with the series finale against the Braves on Sunday.
