Lions receiver Jameson Williams had a recent legal issue that wasn’t widely known. It has now come to light.
Via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, prosecutors in Oakland County, Michigan, have decided not to charge Williams after a woman accused him of assault earlier this month.
“The Novi Police Department thoroughly investigated the alleged Aug. 6 incident after it was first reported in September,” Oakland County Prosecutor spokesperson Jeff Wattrick said in a statement issued to the Free Press on Wednesday. “The investigation included a review of statements, photos, videos, and communications between the alleged victim and Jameson Williams. Investigators also sought additional information from the alleged victim. Based on the facts presented to us at this time, the Novi Police and our office jointly concluded that there is no cause to file charges against Mr. Williams.”
Officers were called to Williams’s home on September 10.
“Mr. Williams unequivocally denies the allegation of domestic violence,” his lawyers said in a statement. “We have provided the prosecutor’s office with extensive evidence directly relevant to the credibility, timing, and circumstances surrounding this allegation, which is baseless. Mr. Williams remains focused on the season and putting this matter behind him.”
The Lions said they were aware of the situation and declined further comment.
The absence of criminal charges may not be the end of the situation. The alleged victim could sue. Likewise, the league could investigate — and potentially impose discipline — if the alleged victim cooperates and if the NFL accepts her version of the events.
Williams, a first-round pick in 2022, has 10 catches for 127 yards and no touchdowns in three 2026 games. In 2025, he had a career-high 65 catches for 1,117 yards. He had seven receiving touchdowns, matching his total from 2024.
