Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons are playing a game that has nothing to do with basketball: Waiting to see who blinks first in their contract standoff.

The Pistons already offered a five-year, $200 million contract to Duren, but the talented center has still refused to sign and end the exhausting impasse.

According to the latest update from ESPN's Shams Charania, it appears the polarizing situation surrounding Duren will only drag on.

“All-NBA center Jalen Duren is not attending the Detroit Pistons' Media Day on Monday nor the start of training camp, declining the team’s five-year, $200 million fully guaranteed offer in restricted free agency so far, sources tell ESPN,” wrote Charania on X.

“The sides remain at a stalemate ahead of Thursday's deadline on a one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer.”

Duren is coming off a breakout campaign, earning his first nods to the All-NBA Team and All-Star Game. He averaged a career-high 19.5 points on 65% shooting and 10.5 rebounds.

His play significantly dipped in the playoffs, prompting many to wonder whether he truly deserves a maximum contract.
