With the New York Yankees preparing for the playoffs, the team has some decisions to make when it comes to the postseason roster, as there are players looking to come back from their injury recovery. While the conversation surrounds Aaron Judge and his status for the Yankees, there are also questions regarding slugger Giancarlo Stanton, as manager Aaron Boone provides insight into the team's line of thinking.
As Stanton has missed significant time with calf injuries, which he hasn't played since April 24, he continues to progress in taking live pitches and rounding the bases. Boone said Friday that the number of position players that New York will take into the playoffs “will factor into whether” Stanton makes the playoff roster.
“Ryan Weathers ‘looks healthy' and got up to 96 mph today, but Aaron Boone wasn’t ready to say if he’s an option for the Wild Card round,” Gary Phillips wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “How many position players the Yankees carry will factor into whether Giancarlo Stanton is on the roster, Boone said.”
Article Continues BelowWhen it comes to a role that Stanton will play for New York, if he does return, it will likely be in a “pinch-hit scenario,” though Boone would emphasize that it remains to be seen if that is a “realistic option.”
“You’re looking at more of a pinch-hit scenario,” Boone said Wednesday, via MLB.com. “Obviously, we’ll see if that’s even a realistic option. I don’t know yet.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen what the Yankees decide to do with Stanton as the playoffs are next week.
