MIAMI – With the Miami Heat in the midst of the preseason, the focus has been on superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo getting acclimated to his starting frontcourt partner in Bam Adebayo and the rest of the team. Outside the team, a special moment has happened involving the Heat captain in Adebayo and his significant other in Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson, as she won her fifth WNBA MVP after another superb season.
Wilson joins exclusive company in winning five MVP awards, as other athletes to achieve that feat in their respective sports are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (won six), Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, and former NFL star Peyton Manning. For Adebayo, that type of accomplishment is hard to put into words.
“It's good to celebrate somebody that you know honestly deserves it. You really can't put five MVPs into words. You literally just have to sit there and just like admire greatness,” Adebayo said after Miami's 128-118 preseason win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Heat's Bam Adebayo wants A'ja Wilson to cherish fond memories
Article Continues BelowThis past season for the Aces, Wilson has averaged 26.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.9 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from three-point range. As she looks to add a fourth title to her legendary resume, though down two games to the Golden State Valkyries ahead of Friday's Game 3 in the semifinals, Adebayo would share the importance of savoring the moment.
“I think because we're so locked into the season, we got like maybe a day to really like kind of cherish it, and it's kind of like, ‘All right. It's time to flip the script,' but for me, when I'm not in-season, and she is, I try to do my best to like remind her of who she is, and vice versa,” Adebayo said.
There's no denying that as Adebayo prepares for the Heat's season, which starts Oct. 21 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he'll be keeping a close eye on the WNBA Playoffs. At any rate, Wilson and Las Vegas look to extend the series on Friday night for Game 3 against Golden State.
