Stephen Vogt had immense praise for Gavin Williams following his start on the mound despite the Cleveland Guardians' 4-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday night.
Williams is going through the fourth season of his career in the majors with the Guardians. He shines as one of the best pitchers in the league, helping Cleveland secure a spot in the playoffs.
Getting a bye to the ALDS, Cleveland was optimistic about its chances. However, Chicago has turned them upside down after beating them 3-0 in Game 1 and 4-3 in Game 2. Williams tried his best on the mound by striking out 11 batters throughout five innings, earning praise from Vogt after the game.
“Gavin was outstanding. That's elite stuff in a big-time moment. We couldn't have asked anything more from Gavin other than maybe a few more pitches,” Vogt said, per reporter Camryn Justice.

How Gavin Williams, Guardians played against White Sox
Gavin Williams certainly put up a valiant effort with his solid pitching on the mound. However, it wasn't enough as the Guardians face elimination in the best-of-five ALDS against the White Sox.
Cleveland initially got off to a good start by scoring two runs in the first inning. However, Chicago fought back with runs in the fourth and sixth frames, taking the lead for good. The hosts got a run back in the eighth inning, but it was too late as they couldn't muster up enough scoring opportunities to take back control.
Cleveland got on the board thanks to errors from Chicago, seeing Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez score the runs. In the eighth, Jo Adell hit a triple down left field to drive home Chase DeLauter.
The Guardians will look to avoid the sweep and keep their season alive in their Game 3 clash with the Guardians. That game will take place on Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. ET.
