Ty Jerome may have put up a spirited effort in the dying embers of the game, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Memphis Grizzlies from suffering their first loss of the season, 135-134, as the New Orleans Pelicans outlasted them in a back-and-forth overtime thriller.
Jerome caught fire towards the end of the fourth, going on a personal 9-0 run to rescue the Grizzlies from certain defeat to force overtime. His heater would continue into the extra period, as he would score eight of his team's 10 points during the final five minutes of the contest.

However, after the Pelicans took the lead on two made free throws from Jeremiah Fears, Jerome would fail to sink a floater from deep midrange against a tight contest from Trey Murphy III. He finished the contest with 40 points, five rebounds, and five assists, rebounding from two poor outings and a missed game to continue the torrid pace he started the new campaign with.
Following this latest heater from the burgeoning Grizzlies star, Jerome is now averaging 28.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per contest — playing a pivotal role in Memphis' better-than-expected 6-1 start to the new campaign.
After the final buzzer had sounded, there were some extracurriculars involving Isaiah Stewart, one of the NBA's most well-known enforcers. The Grizzlies center had to be held back as he jawed back and forth with the Pelicans bench, and the coaches had to step in to prevent the situation from escalating.

This game just shows that the Grizzlies have so much room to grow still, particularly on the defensive end. The Pelicans sliced up their defense in the paint over and over, with Zion Williamson emerging as the team's go-to guy in the clutch (he finished with 25 points on the night), and they had to compensate — leaving open shooters over and over again.
Memphis will look to return to winning ways on Wednesday, when they take on the injury-ravaged Indiana Pacers at home.
