The New York Giants absorbed a brutal injury in Week 2 when starting quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury that ended his season in a painful defeat to the Los Angeles Rams. Backup quarterback Jameis Winston got the start for the Giants in Week 3, and New York was able to secure a 12-7 triumph over the Tennessee Titans.
Reports have indicated that the Giants may be close to a trade for a quarterback who can step in and take over for the athletic Dart. Despite those reports, New York head coach John Harbaugh said that no matter what personnel moves the Giants make during the week, Winston will be the team's starting quarterback in their Week 4 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Winston did not have a dynamic game under center for New York, but he was able to lead the Giants to a 12-0 lead through three quarters and that was enough to secure New York's second victory of the season. Winston completed 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards. While that's not the kind of passing game that usually leads to victory in the NFL, Winston was able to avoid throwing any interceptions.
The Giants depended on running back Cam Skattebo for their key offensive plays. The second-year running back did just enough to keep several of New York's drives alive. He gained 60 yards on 20 attempts, and the Giants were able to turn those gains into four Dominic Zvada field goals.
The Giants are clearly looking to acquire a quarterback to fill the position and potentially upgrade the position.
