If someone flipped on Sunday’s game between the Raiders and the Jets in the fourth quarter, they would have been forgiven for wondering if the Raiders were the home team at MetLife Stadium.
Raiders fans were loud enough in big moments of the game to contribute to a Jets false start and the interception by Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn to seal the 38-33 win was greeted with lusty cheers by those same fans. The loss dropped the Jets to 2-6 on the season and wide receiver Garrett Wilson said after the game that it is up to the Jets to do more to convince their own fans to make that kind of an impact.
“They had some fans in the building,” Wilson said, via SNY. “We gotta handle it. . . . We got to give our fans a reason to come out. I get it. As a team we got to operate better, regardless of the noise.”
The Jets are on their way to a 16th straight season without a trip to the playoffs and that run of futility makes it more surprising that they still have enough supporters turning out on Sundays to make it a surprise when the visiting side dominates the stands.
