The Golden State Valkyries got to celebrate their historic WNBA championship on Wednesday with the requisite parade, and star forward Gabby Williams couldn’t contain her excitement. The two-time All-Star helped power the team through Game 7 to defeat the Atlanta Dream and secure the title, but during the parade, the Valkyries’ star acknowledged the support she got from her teammates all year long.
“I made a lot of mistakes this year, but Kiah Stokes, V [Veronica Burton], all these motherf**kers, sorry,” Williams laughed. “I made a lot of mistakes but I played as hard as I could. I played as hard as I could, we all did. They covered up for me and it was so fun to play on a team that was defensive minded. That’s what I came for, so it’s just fun. Everything is fun.”
In addition to her offense, Gabby Williams helped anchor the defense as well for the Valkyries during their championship run. She was named to the All-Defensive First Team and finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting. Veronica Burton and Kiah Stokes were named to the All-Defensive Second Team.
