On Sunday evening, the Los Angeles Rams fell to 1-2 on the young 2026 NFL season with a tough road loss against the Denver Broncos in primetime. The Rams led this game 16-0 at one point, but they melted down in the third quarter and ended up losing thanks to a late touchdown from Broncos quarterback Bo Nix.
On that final Denver drive, many Rams fans were irate when a questionable pass interference call took away what appeared to be a game-sealing Los Angeles interception.
Now, former Rams center Andrew Whitworth has weighed in on the debate with a blast from the past.
“Well Coach Payton finally got his PI call! I say we call it even!” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
This would of course refer to the 2018-19 NFC Championship between the Rams and the New Orleans Saints, who were coached by current Broncos head coach Sean Payton at the time.
In that game, the Rams benefited from an egregious missed pass interference call down the stretch of the game that Saints fans still complain about to this day.
While Saints fans might not care too much about Payton's Broncos getting the win on Sunday, it might feel good for Payton himself to see Los Angeles on the wrong end of such a call, even if it wasn't quite as egregious as the one several years ago.
In any case, the Rams now have some real issues to sort out as the season continues, sitting below the .500 mark at this early juncture and with multiple key players, headlined by Myles Garrett and Puka Nacua, currently out due to injury.
Los Angeles will next hit the field next weekend on the road for another tough game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
