Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell is rumored to be on the hot seat this season, as the program has finished with a losing record in four of the past six seasons. With the team already 1-1 in the 2026-27 season, speculation grows that Norvell could be on the way out. Jimbo Fisher potentially reprising his role as head coach popped up as a blip on the radar recently, and apparently that possibility is gaining momentum.

College football insider Bruce Feldman backed up the Fisher buzz in his latest column for The Athletic. At the very least, it appears the 60-year-old is highly interested in returning to Florida State if the program were to fire Norvell.

“One interesting development we've heard recently is the prospect of former Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher returning to take over the program,” Feldman wrote. “The 60-year-old Fisher, who led the Seminoles to the national title to cap the 2013 season and then oversaw the beginning of the program's backslide a few years later before taking the Texas A&M job, really wants the job, we've heard.”

Fisher has not coached the Seminoles since the 2017-18 season. His last coaching job was with the Texas A&M Aggies, where he worked from 2018 through 2024. He currently serves as a college football analyst for the ACC Network.

Of course, Jimbo Fisher's return to Florida State is no guarantee. While the rumor may excite Seminoles fans, the program would likely conduct a thorough head coaching search if it opted to fire Mike Norvell.

While the rumor mill remains hot, Norvell is preparing his team for a big matchup in Week 3. Florida State is scheduled to take on the No. 10 Alabama Crimson Tide on the road, with the contest kicking off at 3:30 p.m. EST.
