Florida football desperately attempted to turn things around against third-ranked Georgia by making a quarterback change midway through the second quarter during Saturday's matchup. However, despite the coaching staff's efforts to spark the offense, head coach Jon Sumrall's team ultimately suffered an ugly 27-8 loss. Following the disappointing result, the first-year head coach did not shy away from taking responsibility for his team's performance.

During his postgame press conference, the Florida head coach expressed his disappointment and apologized directly to the Gators' fan base.

“Clearly, not good enough by us today,” Sumrall said. “Really disappointed. Hate it for our football team. I apologize to our fans. It wasn't what the Florida Gator standard is, and I do not shy away from the fact that we have to be a lot better across the board.

“I'm grateful for our fan turnout and grateful for our fan base. They should be pissed off. I hope they are. I am, too, and we're going to get this right, like I promise.”

The Gators' offensive problems started early as quarterback Aaron Philo struggled to handle Georgia's defensive pressure. With the team struggling to generate momentum, Sumrall eventually turned to backup Tramell Jones in an attempt to spark the offense before Florida went into halftime trailing 24-0.

Philo finished the contest with only 24 passing yards and two interceptions, while Jones delivered a comparatively better performance after taking over. The backup quarterback completed 17 of 24 passes for 172 yards and an interception, while also recording Florida's only touchdown of the afternoon.

On the other hand, Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton did not need an especially productive passing performance to guide the Bulldogs to another rivalry victory. He completed 13 of 23 attempts for 101 yards.

With the victory, Georgia improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in SEC play, while Florida dropped to 5-3 with a 3-3 conference record. Florida will next face Oklahoma next week as Sumrall looks to help his team bounce back from the disappointing loss.
