Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups

1. RB Jonah Coleman, Denver Broncos

52.3% Rostered

Jonah Coleman looks to have cemented himself as the lead back for the Denver Broncos, as his Week 8 workload (15 touches, 104 total yards, 1 rushing TD) rewarded any fantasy football rosters that started him. With JK Dobbins taking a back seat, Coleman looks to be in the driver’s seat in Sean Payton’s offense moving forward, as he should be an RB2 for the rest of the season.

2. RB Mike Washington Jr., Las Vegas Raiders

17.5% Rostered

The running back breakdown for the Las Vegas Raiders is puzzling, as both Ashton Jeanty and rookie Mike Washington Jr. are earning fantasy-relevant touches out of the backfield. While Jeanty is seen as the best option, Washington has clearly carved out a role for himself, seeing as how he earned 25 carries in Week 8.

While Jeanty was the back featured in the passing game, focusing on Washington in the run game is a very important stat to notice, and if that trend continues, Washington will have weekly FLEX value in a volatile backfield.

3. WR Antonio Williams, Washington Commanders

16.3% Rostered

The season-ending injury to Terry McLaurin has opened up a big-time opportunity for rookie wideout Antonio Williams, and he has delivered in his expanded role. Williams has seen three-plus targets in every game this season, including seven in Week 8.

While Stefon Diggs will likely be the WR1 in the Washington offense, Williams is absolutely in line to be a WR3 for your fantasy football roster. If you need to add some talent to your WR room, target Williams as your top wide receiver in your Week 9 waiver wire pickups.

4. RB Tyler Allgeier, Arizona Cardinals

45.9% Rostered

Another injury to rookie running back Jeremiyah Love re-opened the door to Tyler Allgeier as Arizona’s top back, and he took that responsibility and RAN with it. Allgeier found the end zone twice in AZ’s overtime win over Dallas, turning 11 carries into 147 rushing yards and 5 receptions into 44 yards.

Love’s injury is a different ankle injury than the one that previously bothered him, so his availability heading into Week 9. If Love is forced to miss another game, Allgeier can be fired up as an RB2 option.

5. RB Emmett Johnson, Kansas City Chiefs

11.8% Rostered

While Kenneth Walker III has earned most of the running back headlines for the Seattle Seahawks, rookie back Emmett Johnson stole the show in Week 8. Johnson was heavily featured in the passing game, catching five passes for 128 yards and a score.

Johnson is still playing second fiddle to Walker, but expect to see his role continue to expand, making him a worthwhile option to add to your fantasy football roster’s bench.

6. TE Brenton Strange, Jacksonville Jaguars

50.2% Rostered

Brenton Strange is the lone tight end in the Week 9 waiver wire pickups, as there aren’t a lot of players worth targeting this week. Strange continues to carve out a weekly role in the Jacksonville passing attack, as he has seen at least five catches or 44 yards in each of his past four games, giving him a safe floor you can count on on a weekly basis.

7. QB Malik Willis, Miami Dolphins

10.6% Rostered

Malik Willis has strung together two strong performances in back-to-back weeks, as he has accounted for five touchdowns (one rushing) against the Jets and Patriots. The hope is that Willis’ rushing upside can resurface moving forward, as matchups against the Lions and Colts give him a chance to repeat his strong performances over the next two weeks.

8. WR DeMario Douglas, New England Patriots

51.8% Rostered

DeMario Douglas has been the next man up in the New England passing attack, with both Romeo Doubs and A.J. Brown missing time due to injury. Douglas has found the end zone four times over the past three weeks, and even when Brown returns to the field, Douglas will slide into the WR2 spot, still giving him a WR3 floor and helping him factor into your wide receiver depth down the stretch.

9. QB Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks

30.8% Rostered

The second quarterback in the Week 9 waiver wire pickups is Sam Darnold, who has streaming value in each of the next two weeks. With matchups against the Cardinals and Raiders ahead of SEA’s Week 11 bye, Darnold will have two solid chances to improve his middle-of-the-road season through Week 8.

10. RB Seth McGowan, Indianapolis Colts

21.3% Rostered

The final player in ClutchPoints’ Week 9 waiver wire pickups is running back Seth McGowan, who would likely take on a larger role if a Jonathan Taylor trade ends up happening. With rumors flying around about which team Taylor will be traded to, McGowan has been splitting the few extra snaps with DJ Giddens, and has looked alright in that role.

McGowan should only be added if you have an extra roster spot, as he doesn’t have a guaranteed role right now and would only step into meaningful work if Taylor is traded.
