The Oklahoma basketball team suffered one of the worst upsets in NCAA basketball history on Monday. Oklahoma lost to East Texas A&M, 68-64. Sooners head coach Porter Moser issued an apology following the bad loss.

“The only thing I know to do is apologize to the fanbase, and get better,” Moser said, per ESPN. “But I apologize to every single person that came in. The things you do, in a game like this, in basketball, that get you beat, we did. We had 15 turnovers and 15 missed free throws.”

The Oklahoma team was a whopping 28.5 point favorite in the game, the outlet reported. The Sooners were left stunned after experiencing this brutal loss.

“According to ESPN Research, in assessing point spreads for more than 100,000 Division I games over the past 30 years, this would be the second-largest upset in that span. In December 2022, Eastern Illinois, a 30.5-point underdog, knocked off Iowa,” ESPN reported.

Moser says his team just never found rhythm. Oklahoma finished the game shooting just 25 percent from three-point range. The Sooners also shot 53 percent at the free-throw line.

“We played on our heels all night,” Moser said. “They got us on our heels, and we stayed on our heels. … It was not good enough, and that's on me.”

Oklahoma is not used to losing their season openers. The Sooners had won 22 of their last 23 season opening games, before Monday.

“Should we have won?” Moser said. “Yes, we should have found a way to win.”

This is definitely one of the toughest losses in Moser's career. The Oklahoma head coach has been in Norman since 2021. He previously led Loyola Chicago to the NCAA Final Four in 2018.

Oklahoma is now 0-1 on the year. The Sooners next play Mississippi Valley State on Friday.
