The fantasy football season is rolling right along, and there is always plenty of injury news for managers to know. But don’t sleep on picking a good defense. And here are the defense and special teams rankings for Week 3 of the 2026 NFL season.

There are a couple of week winners near the top of this list. We will take a closer look at those, along with other standouts and some sleeper options for those who like to stream defenses.

Fantasy Football standouts

The Seattle Seahawks have looked good on defense over the past two weeks. Now they get a Commanders team that just lost its dynamic, dangerous quarterback to injury.

One bad thing for this matchup is that the Seahawks will have to face Marcus Mariota. He is a very capable veteran. It’s not like facing an untested rookie, but Mariota is not Jayden Daniels.

However, the Seahawks are a confident bunch, according to Seahawks.com.

“Our standard is perfection,” Ernest Jones IV said before the season. “When I say perfection, we don't want you to get a yard. We don't want none of that. When you do get that, it pisses us off.”

And they’ve started the season with that Mike Macdonald-infused mentality.

“That's our identity,” said defensive tackle Leonard Williams. “You hear Coach Mike talk about it a lot. We want to be like a boa constrictor. That's how we want to win games, meaning we slowly defeat teams, out-physical teams, and towards the end of the game, they're just going to tap out. I think we've done a great job of creating that identity, and it shows up on tape.”

Look for the Seahawks to have a shot at a splash play. Mariota could be in line for a pick-six this week.

Chiefs also present a good Week 3 option

It's all about the matchup. The Chiefs have been OK, but not spectacular on defense so far. However, they get the Dolphins in Week 3.

In two games, the Dolphins have been held to 13 points both times. It’s simple. The Dolphins don’t have weapons. And that makes defenses look really good from a fantasy perspective.

The Chiefs' defense showed what it can do in Week 1 against the Broncos, according to Chiefswire.com.

“Spags (Steve Spagnuolo) had a great game plan for this crew, and when you're playing that kind of defense, you can do things on offense and take chances,” said Reid. “I thought the defensive line was tremendous in the run and the pass game. Their transition from the run-stopping to transitioning into the play-action game, I thought, was great.”

Other standouts

Who would have dreamed that the Panthers would be a viable fantasy defense after their Week 1 debacle against the Bears? They surrendered 59 points.

But what a difference a week made. They were utterly dominant against the Falcons in Week 2. In that contest, they made big plays and controlled things from start to finish. They forced five turnovers.

With the matchup against the Browns, it’s a strong chance for a second straight nice fantasy day. And Devin Lloyd might have another big day. Teammate Jaelan Phillips said Lloyd looked great against the Falcons, according to Panthers.com.

“Oh, he's just an incredible leader, incredible human, incredible talent, you know, to me he's a gold jacket guy, man,” Phillips said. “I'm honored to be on the same field as him.

“I mean, he was everywhere. He's a force to be reckoned with, and I've been saying this since OTAs that he's the best football player I've played with. Truly honored to be on the field with him and just excited to keep seeing what he does, and he just encourages all of us to play better, be better, lifts everybody up around him, and so it's a blessing to be on the same field with him.”

Another good choice is the 49ers. You have to love what they are doing on the defensive side of the ball so far this season. They held the Rams to seven points, and the Dolphins to 13.

And now they get the Cardinals, who managed only seven points against the Seahawks in Week 2. It’s beginning to look like the 49ers could be a very useful fantasy defense this season. And with this matchup, it’s a good bet they will reach at least double digits in points.

Fantasy Football sleepers

Perhaps the Vikings’ defense didn’t look like much heading into the season. But it has everybody’s attention after holding down the Packers and then shutting down the Bears.

How good have they been? They rank second in pressure rate and first in pass rush win rate through two weeks. And with the way Baker Mayfield has played so far, the Vikings will have a chance to get more done this week.

Also, don’t sleep on the Packers. They have defensive question marks, but they get a great matchup on Thursday Night Football.
