Wrestling for AEW since 2022, he officially signed an AEW contract in 2025 and became an All Elite. A former AEW TNT and Trios Champion, Knight has succeeded in his singles, trios, and tag-team career.

Now, ahead of his WrestleDream match against The Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team titles, Knight sat down for an exclusive interview with ClutchPoints. Discussing his jump from NJPW to AEW, Knight was asked about his current boss, Tony Khan.

With nothing but praise to share, Knight said, “Tony Khan is the absolute best, and the main reason I say that is because he actually. I don't know about other companies, but TNA. I worked at TNA, and it was great. New Japan is great,” he further said.

“Just my experience with AEW, like Tony Khan really cares about us as performers, us as people. He cares about wrestling as a whole. So when your boss just cares, it makes it kinda easy to go out there and perform under any condition because when you get to the back, he's so excited.

“You see the light in his eyes. He's jumping up and down like a little kid. He's screaming and everything. So, he's so passionate about the pro wrestling business, it makes you just wanna go out there and work even harder, you know? And the freedom is dope too because, you know, you can collaborate with your boss on ideas that can make it to television,” Knight added.

The former champion also added that Khan is always open to discussions and even when he is not, wrestlers can promote fights or themselves on their social media. “He's always open to discussion, and even if it's not open to discussion, you can just do it on your own on social media or promote it on your own. If you wanna do a social media promo, if you wanna just post it on your own page, like you have the freedom to do it, and I think that's ‌the beauty of AEW. He's so personable, and you can tell he actually cares about us as people,” he finished.

What is AEW boss Tony Khan's coffee order?

Tony Khan is always seen with his cup of coffee during the late-night AEW PLE media scrums. While it is often hard and tiresome for fans and the wrestlers to stay awake after such long nights, Khan is always seen as energetic. Asking Knight about Khan's coffee order, “The Jet” claimed that Khan seems to drink black coffee, although he is not sure.

“ I'm not sure. I would assume it's black coffee because there's no way he can be up all day, you know, having that kind of energy. So I would assume it's straight-up just espresso, you know, just from catering, and he always has that coffee in his hand, like maybe goes through five, six coffees a day, maybe even more,” Knight said while brushing aside the chances of adding sugar and coffee mate.

Kevin Knight breaks down the differences between NJPW and AEW

Having wrestled for both promotions for a significant amount of time, Knight helped us understand the difference between the two promotions, which he personally faced. “ It's quite similar. The biggest difference is that in AEW, most of the roster speaks English, so I'm able to communicate and understand them a lot better, or, like, in my natural language. In New Japan, the schedule's a little bit different too.

“You know, you're working five days a week, you're traveling with each other, you know. So you kinda get a little more intimate with them in that kind of way. Going to dinner together, going out together. At AEW, it's kinda like you see each other every week. Sometimes we'll hang out, sometimes we'll, you know, get that bond,” he added.

How did Kevin Knight join AEW?

Discussing his transition from NJPW to AEW, Knight was asked about his jump and how he was scouted by AEW. “I've been around AEW for a few years now. I did the first Forbidden Door in 2022. So that was like my first time working with AEW, so I got to meet Tony [Khan], and I got to meet a little bit of the office,” he said. Knight also added that he already knew QT Marshall and Rocky Romero, because of which the transition was easy.

He further continued that his conversations with AEW just happened and he believes he got lucky. “So those conversations just happened, and the more you work with the guy, the more you work with AEW, the more you work with New Japan, you know, people talk, and opportunities open up for you. And for me, I felt like I kinda got lucky. I kinda got lucky with my opportunity with getting a match with [Will] Ospreay within my first couple of weeks at AEW, and that kinda just set everything off.”

“You know what I mean? And the thing that's crazy about wrestling is everybody's story is different. So I just embraced my story and just how everything has happened naturally. And, the biggest thing that I did, I just stayed ready for any opportunity that came my way. And I feel like I did a good job, you know. We're sitting here now,” he smiled.

Does AEW EVP Kenny Omega inspire Kevin Knight?

A few months ago, Knight wrestled Kenny Omega in the main event of AEW Redemption in Canada. Reflecting on his match, Knight shared how Omega inspires him. “I like the way that Kenny [Omega] lets loose and just has fun in the ring. You can really see him, like, open up and, like, see his whole being just, like, come alive while he's in there. And you can feel that energy, and you just feed off of it, you know what I mean?

“And, just being in there with him and experiencing it firsthand, it was dope, and I feel like I kinda do the same thing. So for us to just get in there and do that together, it was an amazing experience to do that in my first main event. Obviously, I wasn't successful, but I think there's a lot of meat left on the bone for us to run it back, so I can't wait,” Knight finished.

In the final moments of the interview, when Knight was asked if he had something planned like Leon Slater's 10-year World Championship win plan, he shared his thoughts on becoming a Grand Slam Champion. “ The Jet is the Flyest of all time. He was the first African American Young Lion to make it through the system. You know, one of the few Black champions in New Japan at the time.

And had the best, the best rookie year on the male side in AEW, being a two-time Trios champ and one of the best TNT champions of all time. Like, I feel like, just remembering these, it's so different. Also being‌ a world champion, an international champion, a national champion, a tag team champion. What is it, a Grand Slam crown? A Grand Slam Champion.”
