Valencia have relieved Carlos Corberan of his duties as head coach following a disastrous start to the season.

The Spanish giants sit bottom of LaLiga with just one point from the opening five games following Friday's 1-0 loss to Sevilla.

In addition, Valencia have scored just one goal this season.

Football CEO Ron Gourlay has also paid the price for Valencia's dire start to the campaign.

Valencia statement

"Valencia CF communicate that the club have taken the decision to terminate the contractual relationship with Football CEO Ron Gourlay, as well as the members of his team: Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus, Andrés Zamora, and Malek Shafei," a statement began on the club's official website.

"This decision reflects the club's intention to begin a new phase for the running of the sporting structure and football operations.

"Valencia CF wish to thank Ron Gourlay for the work carried out during his time at the club.

"Additionally, Valencia CF have terminated the contract of Carlos Corberan and his first team coaching staff.

"Corberan joined Valencia CF in December 2024, with the aim of heading the sporting project during a difficult period. He managed to turn this situation around, and carried out his duties with professionalism, passion, and the utmost commitment over the course of 72 official games.

"The club thank him and all members of his coaching staff for their efforts during their time leading the team.

"The club will announce the new structure for its football operations and the makeup of the upcoming sporting project shortly."

Valencia also confirmed that Oscar Sanchez will assume first-team responsibilities at the Mestalla.

"On an interim basis, VCF Mestalla coach Oscar Sanchez will take charge of the first team," the statement continued.

"The club wish to convey a message of stability and confidence in the future, reaffirming a commitment to building a solid, competitive, and sustainable sporting project."

The 46-year-old former left-back enjoyed a solid playing career, taking in spells at Real Valladolid and Murcia.

Sanchez's first game in charge of Valencia will come against Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday prior to the first international break of the season.
