The Chicago Bears looked great with Caleb Williams back from injury. Chicago defeated Atlanta 31-23 in Week 6 to improve to 4-2 on the season. Now one former player is encouraging them to add reinforcements on defense before the trade deadline.

Former Bears player Kyle Long made the case that Chicago should trade for Khalil Mack once again.

“The one guy I played with in Chicago in 2018 who changed the entire course of our season was Khalil Mack. Now Khalil Mack is on arguably the worst team in the [NFL] and even at the age of 30-whatever he's still playing at a high-caliber level of football,” Long said on Tuesday via NFL on CBS. “Not only that, the intangibles of this guy, the ability he has to come into a room and lift others up. I think Khalil Mack is one of the hardest workers, most prepared guys. He's the vet that's lifting heavy on Monday, setting the tone for the rest of the guys. Bring him home, man.”

Mack is one of the hottest trade candidates in the league ahead of the November 10th trade deadline. The Chargers look terrible after starting the season 0-6. That could make them big sellers at the deadline. If that happens, teams will certainly be calling about Mack.

A potential Mack trade to the Bears almost makes too much sense. After all, Chicago has long been interested in upgrading at edge rusher. They were interested in trading for Maxx Crosby during the offseason. However, they never made a significant addition at the position. Perhaps a player like Mack makes more sense for Chicago.

Mack is on a one-year, $18 million contract that expires after the 2026 season. The combination of his contract and age, in theory, could make a Mack trade quite cheap. That alone could make Mack appealing to GM Ryan Poles.

The 35-year-old pass rusher is still playing well during the 2026 season. He has 19 total tackles and three sacks in six games.

It will be fascinating to see if Chicago makes any moves at the deadline this year. In the meantime, they need to get ready for Thursday Night Football.

Bears vs. Patriots kicks off at 8:15 p.m. ET on Oct. 22 from Soldier Field in Chicago.
