With the Philadelphia Eagles facing the Washington Commanders on Sunday night, the team is in a precarious spot as star quarterback Jalen Hurts is out for the season with blood clots, which is a situation all its own. Talking about the team itself on the field, the Eagles are looking to solve their issues, and with the NFL trade deadline, this league insider discusses what the plan could be like.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero's Substack, he would be “very surprised” if Philadelphia had a fire sale of sorts in trading away stars such as Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, and Zack Baun. Citing Howie Roseman as a highly respected executive in the league, he sees “no reason to think he’ll break character and go into fire-sale mode now,” even saying that there could be a chance that the team could be “buyers.”
“The Eagles will know a lot more about where they stand after their next two games, both against division foes: Sunday at Washington and then November 8 at home against the Giants, who currently sit atop the standings at 4-2-1,” Roseman wrote. “If the Eagles win both, who knows? Maybe the Eagles could end up being buyers, not sellers, as they head into their bye.”
More on how the Eagles could operate ahead of the trade deadline
Pelissero would continue talking about the Eagles and how the “cap situation isn’t as dire as it might appear on the outside,” which is possible with the league's “revenue trajectory,” plus how the team has used options and “void years” to its benefit.

Brown and Cam Jurgens deals, respectively,” Pelissero continued. “Howie will answer every call, as he always does. But that doesn’t mean he’ll actually trade anybody—especially not locker-room fixtures who are signed beyond 2026.”
It remains to be seen what Philadelphia does ahead of Nov. 10's deadline as they look to snap a five-game skid on Sunday against the Commanders.
