With Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts out for the season with blood clots, the serious situation has put a damper on the team's season, with the conversation surrounding what the franchise will do when it comes to its roster. After another ugly offensive showcase for the Eagles in the 25-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers, the team could sell some assets, with this team insider discussing the possibility of one of the options being running back Saquon Barkley.
Barkley has missed the last two games for Philadelphia as he's dealing with a hamstring injury sustained in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams. As Zach Berman of The Athletic ponders the team's plans, he puts Barkley in the conversation as fitting the “category” of “aging stars who might be” in the Eagles' plans for 2027 that would have major interest elsewhere.
“Barkley and Baun fit this category. Both players are in their age-29 seasons,” Berman wrote. “They presumably have fewer prime years ahead of them than behind them and would fetch valuable NFL Draft resources. But if they’re slated to help the Eagles compete in 2027, Roseman would be less inclined to listen. That could be different for three-time Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson, since the Eagles have already started to reshape their offensive line.”
More on the Eagles' potential plans
While the Eagles would be “less inclined to listen” regarding a trade for Barkley, especially if they are confident in competing next season, one would have to imagine there's a course correction in the lost season as they're currently 2-4.

Riq Woolen, Dallas Goedert, and Moro Ojomo would be the most attractive among that group. The Eagles could consider the compensatory pick game in free agency; they might find more value by targeting an eager contending team at the deadline.”
It remains to be seen if Philadelphia is active in gaining assets from their players this season and if Barkley will be one of them.
