The Philadelphia Eagles are still in a difficult spot with Jalen Hurts’ blood clot injury. But they made a key move to add depth to their roster. Furthermore, Nick Sirianni seems to have changed course, referring to the team’s official statement when asked about Hurts’ scary blood clot, according to a post on X by Mike Garafolo.

“Nick Sirianni repeatedly [referred] back to the statement the #Eagles put out yesterday on Jalen Hurts. Not providing much further insight, but says, ‘Jalen’s health is of the utmost importance.’ ”

Perhaps Sirianni has been directed to be careful talking about the situation with Hurts. There has been controversy about Hurts playing with the blood clot before it moved.

Eagles have sensitive situation with QB Jalen Hurts

A medical expert weighed in on the situation with Hurts, according to USA Today.

“People often don’t think about it in athletes and people that don’t have a lot of the other risk factors,” said Dr. Jordan Schaefer, a hematologist at the University of Michigan Health System and associate professor of internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. “So I think getting the attention out there to symptoms that people should be evaluated with is important for both athletes and non-athletes alike.”

Schaefer added that superficial clots matter for several reasons, but mainly because 10 percent of patients experience the clot moving to the deep-vein system and becoming more serious.

However, not all cases are the same, according to Dr. Rushad Patell, who is a hematologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

“Not all blood clots are preventable,” Patell wrote in an email. “Particularly when they occur following an injury. “It is plausible that a cleat injury could have contributed to the development of a superficial clot. However, without prior imaging, it would be impossible to establish whether the clot was already present or definitively attribute it to the injury.”

The Eagles’ official statement started with the history of Hurts’ situation, according to philadelphiaeagles.com. And it concluded with this paragraph: “On Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the small blood clot. Jalen will be out for Sunday's game vs. the Panthers as we determine the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety are our highest priority.”
